Yorgurt Shoudn’t Be Eaten with Chopsticks

Uncategorized No Comments

The subject really says it all. Scott and I had Chinese food for diner and Dougie wanted to try to eat with a pair of chop sticks. As you can imagine, it wasn’t his most successful meal.

Rainbow Cupcakes

We have our party for the Rainbow Room tomorrow. As you may guess, we’re having lots of rainbow themed treats. I am most proud of these:

They came out of the oven looking a bit weird

But it looks pretty good out of the pan

The inside came out as I expected too!

And that’s all that’s left

Playing with the Dogs

Dougie loves to play outside. He especially loves to play with Oliver. They run up and down the fence line together. Oliver will faithfully follow him as he walks around the yard. It is very cute. We can’t wait until Dougie is a little bigger and can play with them outside. Until then…

Spinning

When Dougie is feeling silly, he spins. He loves to do it until he can’t walk straight anymore. Frequently, he’ll do it until he falls down. He’s even gotten a bunch of his friends to do it with him. We only have him doing it alone on camera though.

Dizzy yet?

Elmo said he was scared, he’s making scared noises. Dougie is pretending to be scared too.

Dougie Kills Elmo

Uncategorized No Comments

A few of you on Facebook have already seen this video but we had to share it with the rest of the world. Dougie received an Elmo Live for Valentine’s Day. He loved it and played with it “normally” for a while. Then he discovered that if you knock Elmo down, he’ll ask to get back up and then tell you that you’re his best friend. Dougie played that game constantly until Elmo was injured. We just happened to get that moment on tape.

That Elmo has since been returned and replaced. We only play with the new Elmo in the padded playroom and we’re not allowed to constantly bash him into the floor. This is for both Elmo’s safety and Mum and Dad’s sanity.

Dougie loves to play the piano and sing. It’s a bit hard to hear him over the piano but we wanted to share his talent with you anyway. We’re so proud – we’re thinking of sending him on tour.

Do you think they’ll let him headline in Vegas even if he isn’t 21 yet?

How Domestic!

I know, we haven’t blogged in a while but we’re going to be changing that. I have some cute videos to share and some pictures. Today though, I have to share my new skill!

Our MOMS Club is helping a local charity called the Rainbow Room. They provide supplies to CPS workers to pass along to children in need. It’s a great organization and I’m so excited that we’re going to be helping out. One of the items they mentioned they needed were diaper bags. They sent along a pattern to make them. It looked easy enough and I own a sewing machine so, I gave it a whirl.

My first one isn’t perfect, but it’s not half bad either.

I plan to make a few more before our donation collection party. I would like to send some thanks out to my mother who taught me to sew (20+ years ago) and Jean (Scott’s mother) who showed me how to thread my sewing machine and made sure I practiced until I got it right. :)

Poor Scott

Last weekend, Scott was upstairs with Dougie and walked into the bathroom door. He was in quite a bit of pain but was certain his toe wasn’t broken so he opted to not get it looked at. He went to Houston as usual this week but by Thursday was concerned that the pain had not subsided at all. We made him a doctor’s appointment for today.

Foot

It’s broken. In fact, it was so broken that they brought in the intern to see it as a example of a very clear break. Scott will have to see an orthopedist to see what needs to be done from here. His toe is turning out quite a bit and the doctor wanted a specialist to check it out. He’ll also need to wear a rigid foot brace for a while. Fortunately, he’s not in a cast – his toes are just taped together to try to get the broken one to stay straight.

Scott is taking the entire thing in stride.

Can You Hear Me Now?

Dougie’s doctor asked us to bring him in to get his hearing testing. With his speech delays, he wanted to be sure that there wasn’t something physically causing it. So, this morning we braved the icy rain and brought him in for a hearing test.

The test itself went quite quickly. The technician had him sit on my lap in a soundproof room with two speakers on either side of Dougie. First, she talked to him and watched for him to look at the speaker. After a few rounds of that, she played noises out of the speakers at different volumes. If he looked at the speaker, a toy inside lit up and moved. The entire test took less than 10 minutes.

After the test we waited around for what seemed to be forever for the doctor to come in and chat with us. He told us that Dougie measured within range. We expected that would be the case but it was very nice to have it confirmed.

So, now we know it’s just regular old speech delay. Dougie is making progress on his speech already even after just a short time in speech therapy. He is definitely trying to say a lot more words and will even repeat back a two word phrase (though not spontaneous yet).
